World records: The biggest tree

The General Sherman Tree in California’s Sequoia National Park is the biggest tree in the world.
It stands at 274′ 11″ and is 102′ 8″ around.
Its largest branch measures almost 7 feet in diameter.

There are taller trees, heavier trees, and older trees, but none that are larger.

General Sherman is estimated to weigh about 1,400 tons.
The tree was named after American Civil War general, William Tecumseh Sherman, by naturalist James Wolverton in 1879.
